Novelis Announces Inaugural Class of Novelis Fellowship Program

Program Recognizes Elite Technical Talent Globally

ATLANTA, Oct. 9, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Novelis, the world leader in aluminum rolling and recycling, announced today the first-ever inductees into the Novelis Fellowship program. The company's highest technical honor, the awards recognize the most exceptional engineers and scientists within the Novelis technical community.

The 2013 class of the Novelis Fellowship program includes:

  • Robert B. (Bob) Wagstaff, Novelis Fellow:  Wagstaff, Director of Molten Metal Processing, is one of the world's leading experts in melting and solidification of aluminum and its alloys. During his 30-year career, he has invented several leading-edge technologies for aluminum processing that have improved efficiency and safety.  Wagstaff holds over 20 U.S. patents and more than 40 with the World Intellectual Property Organization, all focused on applying complex engineering principles to normal workday processes. He has been honored with many industry and leadership awards, both inside and outside of Novelis, including the Novelis Leadership Excellence Award in 2012, the Light Metals Award in 2009 from the Minerals, Metals and Materials Society, and was a finalist for the Lifetime Achievement Award from Platts Global Metals Awards in 2013. One leading industry publication called him "an innovative giant and an industry pioneer."
  • Ron Dunsmoor, Distinguished Engineer:  Dunsmoor, Senior Manager, Global Technology, is recognized for his outstanding leadership and continued success throughout his more than 40-year career at Novelis. He has been instrumental in the introduction of new technologies in cast house and recycling operations including the first commercial, fully automated and integrated casting system in the world.  Dunsmoor is currently working on the company's automotive closed-loop recycling system.
  • Adriano Ferreira, Distinguished Engineer: Ferreira, Senior Technology Manager for Novelis South America, is recognized for being a world leader and innovator in process control over a 30-year career. Ferreira led the technical development of a new cold rolling mill at Pindamonhangaba, the company's largest facility in South America. He holds five patents worldwide and won the 2011 Aditya Birla Group World Class Manufacturing award. Ferreira is currently working on the development of new applications for aluminum in the South American specialties market and the development of recycle-friendly processes and products.
  • John Hunter, Distinguished Scientist: Hunter, Group Leader in Surface Science, has been with Novelis for 31 years and is an industry-leading expert in the area of aluminum surface science and engineering. His fields of expertise include surface cleaning; chemical and inorganic pre-treatments and coatings; and corrosion behavior and electrochemistry. Hunter holds 10 patents worldwide and his research has been featured in numerous journals, conference publications and keynote lectures.

To be considered for the Novelis Fellowship program, candidates must be highly skilled technical experts with a sustained body of independent and innovative engineering and scientific work that demonstrates a measurable business impact.  In addition, they must be recognized both inside and outside Novelis as subject matter experts and must mentor others within the Novelis technical community.
