Novelis Expands Nationwide Network Of Aggregation Centres

The opening of two new aggregation centres enables high-quality aluminium supply

Warrington, UK, September 1st, 2014 -- Novelis, the world leader in aluminium rolling and recycling, today announced the opening of two new aggregation centres, servicing areas in and around London and the South East.

From September 1st Novelis’ comprehensive network of local delivery points has expanded to offer even more options for the delivery of used aluminium beverage cans. The opening of the centres is in line with Novelis’ strategy to augment its existing network of used aluminium can suppliers and reach its ambitious target of achieving 80 percent recycled content by 2020.

The expansion is part of a new partnership between Novelis and European Metal Recycling (EMR), the global leader in metal recycling. EMR’s core business is the recycling of scrap metal from a range of sources such as End-of-Life vehicles/consumer products, industry, construction and demolition. This results in sales of recycled commodities of around 10 million tonnes a year.

EMR’s site in Erith, Kent will serve suppliers in East London, Kent, Surrey & Sussex while their site in Brentford, Middlesex is convenient for suppliers in West/North London and the Home Counties.

Keith Guest, Leader, Scrap Procurement UK UBC at Novelis, commented “We are delighted to be working in partnership with European Metal Recycling. Their ethos and goals are closely aligned with those of Novelis, and we look forward to a long-term, mutually beneficial relationship.”

The addition of these two new delivery points will make it easier for Novelis’ suppliers to deliver their high-quality aluminium within their local area. Novelis is unique in offering a nationwide network of aggregation centres to support their suppliers. Novelis’ metal buying team also offers support and advice on matters such as setting up an aluminium can collection scheme, quality and contamination issues.

Recycling aluminium reduces the use of natural resources and chemicals and eliminates the need for bauxite ore to be mined. A used aluminium drink can can be recycled, reprocessed, remade and ready for re-sale in around 60 days.
