The award was presented last night during a black-tie gala held at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., attended by dignitaries including U.S. Supreme Court Justices, top law firm partners, law school deans, and leading professors from across the nation. The Burton Awards, which are patterned after the Pulitzers, are one of the most prominent awards in the U.S. legal field.

"Congratulations to Les for this impressive achievement and peer recognition," said Phil Martens, President and Chief Executive Officer of Novelis. "His wisdom, business savvy and leadership go well beyond diligent application of legal processes and strategies, and have, in fact, tremendously helped transform Novelis from a regionally focused organization into a truly world class global enterprise."

Mr. Parrette supervises a team of 35 legal professionals at Novelis operations around the globe. His team supports the company in a broad range of strategic initiatives; litigation and other legal proceedings; mergers, acquisitions and divestitures; the administration of contracts; international and domestic securities law; and corporate governance and compliance requirements.

Mr. Parrette rejoined Novelis in October 2009 as Senior Vice President, General Counsel, Corporate Secretary, and Compliance Officer, a position he held previously from 2005 to early 2009. He holds an A.B. degree in Sociology from Harvard College and a Juris Doctorate in Law from Harvard Law School.

The "Legends in the Law" award is given annually to the General Counsel of a company with gross revenues of more than $1 billion whose reputation in both the legal profession and as a proven authority in a specialized area of law is considered superior. Nominations were received from managing partners of the top 1,000 law firms. The Burton Foundation is a not-for-profit academic organization run in association with the Library of Congress.
