Novelis Announces The Appointment Of John Gardner As Chief Sustainability Officer

ATLANTA, Nov. 19, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Novelis Inc., the world's leading producer of aluminum rolled products and beverage can recycling, today announced the appointment of John Gardner as Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer, effective January 1, 2011. 

In this newly created position, Mr. Gardner will lead the development of a globally integrated sustainability program that reflects the company's commitment to delivering sustainable solutions in its processes and products.  Mr. Gardner will report directly to the President and Chief Operating Officer, Philip Martens, and will serve on the Novelis Executive Committee.

Mr. Gardner currently serves as Vice President, Human Resources and Communications for Novelis Europe, and has been an integral member of the company's sustainability platform. With more than 25 years experience in Novelis, he has held a variety of senior roles throughout the company including positions within sales and marketing, operations, recycling and corporate affairs.  Mr. Gardner holds a B.A. in Humanities and a Masters in Management Science from Warwick University.  He will relocate from Zurich, Switzerland, to the Novelis world headquarters in Atlanta.

Following this appointment, Ryan Jurkovic, currently Vice President, Human Resources for Novelis North America has been named Vice President, Human Resources for Novelis Europe, effective January 1, 2011.  Mr. Jurkovic has held this position since joining the company in 2004 from United Technologies, where he held a number of management and HR roles.  He holds a B.S. in Economics from Allegheny College and an MBA from Purdue University, and will be relocating to Zurich, Switzerland.

Succeeding Mr. Jurkovic as Vice President, Human Resources for Novelis North America will be Monica Anderton, currently Vice President, Corporate HR, for Novelis.  Ms. Anderton joined the company in 2010 following 20 years of experience in HR leadership roles in diverse industries.  She holds a B.A. in Management and an MBA in International Business and Management from Mercer University.  Ms. Anderton will continue to be located in Atlanta.
